[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic name: Albendazole Granules
Trade name: Achongqing
English name: Albendazole Granules
Pinyin: Abendazuo Keli
[Main Ingredients] Albendazole
[Description] This drug is of off-white granules.
[Pharmacological Action] Benzimidazole anthelmintic. Albendazole has a broad-spectrum anthelmintic effect, effective against nematodes, tapeworms, and trematodes, but ineffective against schistosomes. The mechanism of action of albendazole primarily involves binding to the tubulin of sensitive parasites, preventing the polymerization and assembly of α-tubulin into microtubules, thereby affecting the processes of mitosis, protein assembly, and energy metabolism in the cells of the parasites.
Albendazole is well absorbed after oral administration and is rapidly metabolized in the body to sulfoxide (the main active metabolite for anthelmintic action) and sulfone. Within 20 hours after administration, the plasma drug peak concentration of the metabolites albendazole sulfoxide and albendazole sulfone are reached. The half life of the sulfoxide metabolite in cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens are 20.5, 7.7-9.0, 5.9, and 4.3 hours, respectively, and the half life of the sulfone metabolite in cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens are 11.6, 11.8, 9.2, and 2.5 hours, respectively.
[Function and Use] Anthelmintic, for the treatment of nematodiasis, cestodiasis, and trematodiasis in livestock and poultry.
