[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic name: Fenbendazole Granules
Trade name: Weishikang
English name: Fenbendazole Granules
Pinyin: Fenbendazuo Keli
[Main Ingredients] Fenbendazole
[Description] This drug is of off-white granules.
[Pharmacological Action] Anthelmintic. Fenbendazole exhibits a wide range of activity against helminths such as nematodes, tapeworms, and trematodes, but it does not work against schistosomes. Its mode of action involves binding to tubulin proteins in susceptible worms, which inhibits their ability to polymerize with α-tubulin and form microtubules. This interference disrupts essential cellular processes in the worms, including mitosis, protein assembly, and energy metabolism, thereby impeding their reproduction.
After fenbendazole is administered orally, only a little of it be absorbed. It is absorbed slowly by ruminants and slightly faster by monogastric animals. The blood concentration peaking time is 24 hours for dogs and 2-3 days for sheep. The absorbed fenbendazole is metabolized into sulfoxide (active orfendazole) and sulphone. For cattle, sheep and pigs, 44%-50% of fenbendazole is excreted in its original form in feces and less than 1% is excreted in urine.
