[Main Ingredients] Iodine, potassium iodide

[Description] This drug is of reddish-brown viscous liquid, with the characteristic odor of iodine.

[Pharmacological Action] Iodine has a strong disinfecting action and can kill bacterial spores, fungi, viruses and some protozoa. Iodine acts mainly in the form of the molecule (I₂) and the principle is that it iodinates and oxidizes the active genes of pathogenic microorganism proteins and combines with the amino groups of the proteins, resulting in albuminous degeneration and inhibition of the metabolic enzyme systems of pathogenic microorganisms. Iodine is almost insoluble in water and cannot be easily hydrolyzed in water to form hypoiodous acid. In the iodine aqueous solution, the components with the bactericidal action are elemental iodine (I₂), ions of triiodide (I₃^—) and hypoiodous acid (HIO). HIO has the strongest action despite a relatively small amount, followed by I₂, and the bactericidal action of the dissociated I₃^— is extremely weak. Under acidic conditions, the amount of free iodine increases and the bactericidal action is relatively strong, while the condition is contrary under alkaline conditions.

[Drug Interaction] Mercury-containing drugs (including Chinese patent medicine), regardless of the route of administration, will produce mercuric iodide and present toxic actions when they are used with iodine preparations (potassium iodide, iodine tincture, iodine-containing food such as kelp and seaweed, etc.).

[Function and Use] Halogen disinfectant and preservative, for the treatment of mucosal inflammation and ulcers in the mouth, tongue, gum, vagina and other areas.

[Dosage and Administration] Applied at the affected area.

[Adverse Reaction] Low-concentration iodine has very low toxicity and causes allergic reactions when used occasionally.

[Precautions] (1) It is prohibited to be used for animals allergic to iodine.

(2) It should not be combined with mercury-containing drugs.

[Withdrawal Period] It is not required.
