[Description] This drug is of colorless transparent liquid.

[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: Niketamide has a selective direct excitatory effect on the medullary respiratory center. Moreover, it can also act on the carotid sinus and aortic chemoreceptors, reflexively exciting the respiratory center to increase its sensitivity to hypoxia and deepen and accelerate breathing. It has a weak excitatory effect on the cerebral cortex, vascular motor center, and spinal cord, but has no direct excitatory effect on other organs.

It is often used for respiratory central depression caused by various reasons, such as central inhibitory drug poisoning, central respiratory depression caused by diseases, neonatal asphyxia, or accelerating the awakening of anesthetized animals. It is more effective than pentylenetetrazol in treating respiratory failure caused by opioid poisoning, followed by anesthetic inhalation poisoning. However, its rescue effect on barbiturates poisoning is not as good as pentylenetetrazine.

Pharmacokinetics: This drug is easily absorbed by oral administration and injection, but its duration of action is brief, with only 20-30 minutes of efficacy maintained by a single intravenous injection. This drug is metabolized into nicotinamide in the body, which is then methylated into N-methylnicotinamide and excreted in the urine.

[Function and Use] Central nervous system stimulant, for rescuing respiratory center depression.

[Dosage and Administration] Intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous injection: 10-20ml/time for horses and cattle; 1-4ml/time for sheep and pigs; 0.5-2ml/time for dogs.

[Adverse Reaction] Excessive dosage can cause elevated blood pressure, sweating, arrhythmia, tremors, and muscle rigidity, as well as convulsions.

[Precautions] (1) The intravenous injection speed of this drug should not be too fast.

(2) If symptoms of convulsions occur, timely intravenous injection of diazepam or low-dose sodium thiopental should be administered.

(3) After the excitatory effect, central inhibition often occurs.

[Withdrawal Period] It is not required.
