[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic name: Ciprofloxacin Lactate Injection
Trade name:
English name: Ciprofloxacin Lactate Injection
Pinyin: Rusuan Huanbingshaxing Zhusheye
[Main Ingredients] Ciprofloxacin lactate
[Description] This drug is of almost colorless to yellow transparent liquid.
[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: This drug is a broad-spectrum bactericidal agent specifically for animal use. It targets the bacterial DNA gyrase (gyrase A) subunit, thereby inhibiting bacterial DNA replication and transcription, which leads to its bactericidal action. The drug exhibits potent antimicrobial effects against a majority of Gram-negative bacteria and cocci, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella spp., Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Campylobacter spp., Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Aeromonas spp., Proteus spp., Haemophilus spp., Yersinia spp., Serratia spp., and Vibrio spp. Additionally, Brucella spp., Chlamydia trachomatis, Staphylococcus (encompassing penicillinase-producing and methicillin-resistant strains), Mycoplasma, and Mycobacterium show sensitivity to it. However, it demonstrates minimal antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacteria and is ineffective for treating anaerobic bacterial infections. Compared to other drugs in its type, this drug is notably more effective against Gram-negative bacteria, with particularly strong in vitro antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Pharmacokinetics: Ciprofloxacin exhibits a marked variation in plasma protein binding rates across different animal species, reaching 70% in cattle and 23% in pigs. Predominantly, it is eliminated unchanged in urine. The half-life following intravenous administration is characterized by the following durations: 4.9 hours in horses, 2.4 hours in calves, 1.3 hours in sheep, 1.5 hours in goats, 3.1 hours in pigs, 9.0 hours in chickens, and 2.6 hours in dogs.
[Drug Interaction] ① Aminoglycosides and broad-spectrum penicillins, when co-administered with ciprofloxacin, exhibit a synergistic antibacterial action. ② Ciprofloxacin is susceptible to chelation with metal ions like Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Al3+, which can impact its absorption. ③ The presence of ciprofloxacin can inhibit liver enzymes, resulting in decreased metabolism of other drugs (such as theophylline, caffeine), reduced clearance, increased blood concentrations, and potentially toxic symptoms. ④ Concurrent use of ciprofloxacin with probenecid can lead to an inhibition of its renal tubular excretion due to competition for the same transport mechanism, resulting in a prolonged half-life.
[Function and Use] Fluoroquinolone antibacterials, for bacterial and mycoplasma infections in livestock and poultry.
[Dosage and Administration] Intramuscular injection: 1.25 ml/time per 10kg of body weight for livestock; 2.5 ml/time per 10kg of body weight for poultry, administered twice a day. Intravenous injection: 0.1 ml/time per 1 kg of body weight for livestock, administered twice a day.
[Adverse Reaction] (1) Degeneration of cartilage in young animals, resulting in skeletal development issues and symptoms such as limping and pain, is observed.
(2) Digestive system reactions manifest as vomiting, decreased appetite, and diarrhea.
(3) Cutaneous reactions include redness, itching, hives, and photosensitivity.
[Precautions] (1) Caution is advised when it is administered to young breeding animals and foals.
(2) Use is prohibited in female pregnant and lactation animals.
(3) Caution is needed in carnivorous animals and those with compromised kidney function. Dosage adjustments are necessary for animals with severe kidney or liver disease to prevent drug accumulation.
(4) Laying hens should not receive this during their laying period.
