[Veterinary Drug Name]
Generic name: Colistin Sulfate Premix
Trade name:
English name: Colistin Sulfate Premix
Pinyin: Liusuan Nianjunsu Yuhunji
[Main Ingredients] Colistin
[Description] This drug is of white or off-white powder or granules.
[Pharmacological Action] Pharmacodynamics: Colistin belongs to polypeptides and is an alkaline cationic surfactant. Through the interaction with phospholipids in the bacterial cell membrane, it penetrates into the bacterial cell membrane and destroys its structure, thus causing changes in membrane permeability, causing bacterial death and bactericidal effect. This drug has strong antibacterial effect on aerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella, Shigella and other Gram-negative bacteria. Gram-positive bacteria are usually insensitive. It has complete cross resistance with polymyxin B, but no cross resistance with other antibiotics.
Pharmacokinetics: The drug is hardly absorbed by oral administration, but it is rapidly absorbed by non-gastrointestinal administration. Drugs entering the body can rapidly distribute into the heart, lung, liver, kidney and skeletal muscle, but it is not easy to enter the brain, spinal cord, chest, joint cavity and infection lesions. It is mainly excreted through the kidney.
[Drug Interaction]
(1) It works synergistically with bacitracin zinc 1:5.
(2) Its combination with neuromuscular blockers such as muscle relaxants and aminoglycosides may cause muscle weakness and apnea.
(3) It has synergistic effect with chelating agent (EDTA) and cationic detergent on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and is often used in combination for the treatment of local infection.
(4) Its combination with drugs that may damage renal function can enhance its nephrotoxicity.
[Function and Use] Polypeptide antibiotic, for the treatment of intestinal infections in cattle, pigs, and chickens caused by sensitive Gram-negative bacteria.
[Dosage and Administration] On the basis of this drug. Mixed feeding: per 1000kg of fodders, 375-500g for cattle, pigs, and chickens, administered for 3-5 consecutive days.
[Adverse Reaction] Colistin can be well tolerated by animals when administered orally or locally. Systemic application can cause nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and neuromuscular blocking effects. Colistin is less toxic than polymyxin B.
[Precautions]
(1) This drug cannot be used for laying hens during the laying period.
(2) Overdose use may cause renal function injury.
(3) This drug is rarely absorbed by oral administration and is not suitable for the treatment of systemic infectious diseases.
[Withdrawal Period] 7 days for cattle, pigs, and chickens.
